Houston County DUI Attorney

Being Arrested for Drunk Driving

  • If you are stopped for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) you face severe penalties that can include suspension or loss of your license, heavy fines, jail time, community service and counseling.  Even a first offense can cause you a severe setback both financially and legally but the punishments get much more serious if you have any prior convictions. If you have been charged with a DUI it is very important that you contact Greg Bell immediately. You have exactly10 days in Georgia to properly request an Administrative Law Hearing from the Georgia DMV to contest the suspension of your license. This is an entirely separate hearing from the court date listed on your citation. Our office can help you file this request and represent you legally when you appear for the hearing as well as in traffic court.

Facing a judge and a state prosecutor can be an intimidating experience.  Our firm has successfully represented many clients on DUI charges and we will do everything possible to either get the charges dropped or reduced.   The most important thing to remember when stopped by an officer is to remain polite and cooperate and not say or do anything to aggravate the situation or worsen the charges against you.

  • While you do the right to refuse to take any field sobriety tests, by doing so you will face getting a one-year suspension of your license.  Getting a DUI conviction will have negative effects on your insurance and will have to be reported on any future job applications.   A first DUI offense could also include:
  • Jail time - betwee 10 days to a 1 year
  • Suspended license of up to a year
  • Community service
  • DUI school and/or alcohol treatment
  • Fine - between $300 - $1000
